ClassPass, Wellhub and flexible passes: when variety beats membership

Credit-based passes promise every studio in the city without a contract. What they cost per class in practice, which premium clubs and studios participate, the peak-slot problem, and the employer schemes that make Wellhub nearly free.

What a class actually costs

ClassPass credits are priced dynamically; a 6pm reformer class at a good studio can cost 15 to 20 credits, and a mid-tier plan might give you 38 credits for £69, so £27 to £36 for that class. Off-peak and less popular studios drop to £8 to £12. The pass rewards flexibility and punishes wanting the same slot every Tuesday.

Where the premium clubs are

Mostly not on ClassPass. David Lloyd, Third Space and Harbour Club sell their own passes or none. Virgin Active and Nuffield Health appear on some Wellhub tiers, which is the main way to get a premium club through a pass. Spas and treatments on ClassPass are real and sometimes good value.

Wellhub via your employer

If your employer offers Wellhub, the higher tiers can include premium clubs for a fraction of the direct price, often salary-sacrificed. It is the single biggest discount on premium fitness most people never claim. See employer schemes and salary sacrifice.

When membership wins

Same studio, same slot, twice a week or more: the studio’s own membership is cheaper and guarantees the booking. Anything involving a pool, spa or gym floor: a club. Passes are for variety, travel and trying before buying.

FAQs

Common questions

Is ClassPass cheaper than a gym membership?

For four to eight varied classes a month, often yes. For regular use of one studio or any club facility, no.

Does ClassPass include David Lloyd or Third Space?

Not as of September 2026. Both sell their own guest passes or day experiences. Verify current participation.
