A guide built around the person paying the membership

About Health Clubs is an independent guide to premium health, fitness and wellbeing in the UK and Europe. We cover the clubs, courts, spas, kit and health testing that sit above the budget gym, for people who want to spend well rather than spend most.

Why this exists

Premium fitness is a £150-a-month decision made on a tour with a salesperson. The information that would help (what is actually included, how the spa compares, what the contract says, whether the blood test means anything) is scattered across club websites, forums and marketing. We put it in one place, in plain English, and keep it checked.

We started as a UK gym comparison site. As readers asked about padel courts, thermal suites, wearables and private health testing, the site grew to match. In 2026 we reorganised it around five things: Clubs, Racquets, Spa & recovery, Gear and Health, across the UK and Europe.

Who it is for

Members and would-be members of David Lloyd, Nuffield Health, Virgin Active, Third Space, Harbour Club, Bannatyne and their European equivalents. People choosing between a club and a boutique studio, or between a club and a garden gym. People who have been told by a wearable or a blood test that something is off and want to know what to do next, and what to ask a GP.

Budget gyms are excellent at what they do. They are not what we cover, except as a point of comparison.

How we make money

Some links are affiliate links; if you buy or join through one we may earn a commission at no cost to you. Affiliate relationships never decide a verdict, a ranking or a place in a finder, and we say so on every page that carries one. Health explainer pages carry no affiliate links at all. We do not take payment for coverage, run sponsored content, or accept free memberships in return for reviews. Read the affiliate disclosure.

How we work

We pay for memberships, visit clubs, read the contracts and check prices against the chains’ own published data every quarter. Where we have not yet confirmed something, the page says so. Our editorial standards, how we verify and how we rank pages set out the rules; corrections lists what we got wrong.

Health content

We are not clinicians. Health pages are general information to help you have a better conversation with a GP or specialist, not a substitute for one. Every health page carries a disclaimer, a when-to-see-a-GP block and links to NHS and NICE sources. See the medical disclaimer.
