Luxury clubs

Above £200 a month, the question changes

Luxury gyms, hotel wellness clubs and private members’ clubs with gyms attached. What they cost, how you get in, what the money buys, and when a £95 David Lloyd is the better answer.

Five things to know first

01

Most of them don’t publish prices

Third Space, Equinox and every members’ club quote on enquiry or application. Our figures come from the club where possible and named reports where not; treat anything without a source as a range.

02

Joining fees are the real barrier

£100 to £200 at a luxury gym; £1,500 to £2,000 at a members’ club. They are the most negotiable line and the one most often waived in January and September.

03

Members’ clubs are not gyms with a bar

At Soho House the gym is a benefit of a social membership. You apply, you wait, you are proposed. Fitness-first members often find the gym small and the classes capped.

04

Multi-site access is where tiers differ

Third Space Group vs Group Plus, Equinox single club vs Destination, Soho House Local vs Every House. The perks barely change; the postcode list does.

05

Recovery is the new differentiator

Cryotherapy, hyperbaric oxygen, IV drips and hypoxic rooms appear at the £300 tier. Most are pay-per-use on top of membership. Ask what is included before you are impressed by it.

Cost per visit

£300 a month is £35 a visit at twice a week

At four visits a week it is £17, which is what many pay for a boutique class. The calculator has a luxury preset with joining fees included.

How we cover this market

We are not members of any club listed here and accept no hosted visits. Fees are taken from club websites where published and from named press reports where not; each page lists its sources.
