No access

If your chain doesn’t travel

Three options, cheapest first. A chain day pass: Basic-Fit, McFIT and Fitness Park sell them online for €8 to €15 without membership. A flexible app: Urban Sports Club (Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Belgium, Portugal) and ClassPass give access to hundreds of gyms and studios on a monthly plan you can pause. Or a monthly no-contract membership at a local budget chain, usually €25 to €35 with no joining fee if you time it with a promotion.

Longer stays

Past six weeks, a local membership beats every pass. Read the country guide for the contract norms first: Germany and the Netherlands make monthly cancellation easy after the first term; France, Italy and Switzerland lean on annual deals. Freeze your UK membership before you go; most chains allow one to three months for travel.

Multi-site tiers are the thing to check

Where access exists it is almost always on the top tier. David Lloyd Platinum, Anytime Fitness after 30 days, Basic-Fit Premium, PureGym Plus for its own network. If you travel more than a few times a year, the tier upgrade is cheaper than passes; if you travel once, it isn’t.

FAQs

Common questions

Can I use David Lloyd in Europe?

Platinum members yes, at all European clubs. Other tiers need a guest arrangement through the home club. Padel and tennis are booked under the local club’s rules and often need a member to book.

Is Anytime Fitness really worldwide?

Yes, after 30 days of membership your key fob works at any club globally. It is the only major chain where that is automatic.

Can I use Third Space or Equinox abroad?

Third Space is London-only. Equinox All Access and Destination tiers include its US and international clubs; single-club tiers do not.

What is the cheapest way to train abroad for a week?

A chain day pass (€8 to €15) or a week of Urban Sports Club. For two weeks or more, a monthly no-contract budget membership is usually cheaper than passes.
