The £50,000 home gym: Technogym, Eleiko and a recovery corner

At this budget the question is no longer whether it beats a membership. It is a private club for one household, specified to commercial standard and designed to be seen.

The commercial spec

Technogym and Eleiko are what clubs buy because they run sixteen hours a day for a decade. At home that means kit that never feels tired and a service network that repairs rather than replaces. Frames carry ten-year warranties; Eleiko bars twelve. Resale on the strength kit is strong; on the cardio, thinner.

Recovery is where the luxury tier separates

A sauna and a cold plunge turn a gym into the part of a health club people actually pay for. Budget for the electrician and the ventilation, not just the units. Our home recovery guide covers running costs, which are real: an infrared sauna is about £1 an hour, a chilled plunge £30 to £50 a month.

Design the room first

At this level the room is half the budget and the kit fits the room. Ceiling height for the treadmill and pull-ups (2.6m minimum), floor loading for plates and plunge (a full plunge weighs 600kg), power for the sauna, extraction for the plunge. Our garden gym rooms guide covers the building.

Against the club

Roughly £850 a month over five years. That is three Third Space memberships or one KX with change. Nobody buys this to save money. They buy it because 06:00 is quieter at home and because the room is beautiful.

FAQs

Common questions

What does a luxury home gym cost?

A fully specified room with commercial cardio, Eleiko strength, cable system, sauna, cold plunge and finish runs £45,000 to £60,000 before the room itself.

Is Technogym or Eleiko better for strength?

Eleiko for bars, plates and racks; Technogym for machines, cable systems and benches. Most luxury rooms use both.

Do I need planning permission?

For equipment, no. For a garden room, a sauna or electrical work, see our garden gym rooms guide; permitted development usually covers it but there are limits.

What are the running costs?

Content subscriptions £60 to £90 a month, sauna and plunge electricity £40 to £80 a month depending on use, and servicing £300 to £500 a year.

See what these numbers do against five years of membership.
